My Favorite Bits of Summer…

Today is September 1st...the official end of summer in these parts. This little fact makes me incredibly sad. My summers are usually protected nuggets of sunshine and relaxation - this year was a bit different and much busier than normal. I had high hopes of sharing with you my love of summer through pictures of trips to Manchester-by-the-Sea, photos of me wearing caftans, eating lobster rolls and ice cream cones, splashing about with Didi in our little swimming hole, and conveying to you how very much summer means to me. It didn't happen. That said, The Mister and I made sure to squeeze in a few fun activities and took advantage of some local events. And as today is a day off, I thought I would take the gift of extra free time to post some pictures of my summertime antics.

Sunrise Hot Air Balloon Launch! The Mister and I woke up at 4:30 am and headed down the road to a small local airstrip where balloon enthusiasts from all parts of the country showed up to take off with the sunrise. It was a fairly magical way to begin one's day. This (hopefully annual event) is a fundraiser for Revels North, where Revelers serve up a full pancake breakfast to those who woke early to join them. Next year I hope to work up the gumption to go up in one....we'll see...

Another great event involving Revels North is a community event celebrating the Summer Solstice on June 21 in a neighboring town. It was a gorgeous evening and we spent the night watching Revelers (including two of my college friends!) sing, dance, and tell stories as we all officially welcomed in the summer months.

And as always, summer means fresh produce and more yummy food, cooked by yours truly and others...

....and time spent both playing and relaxing...

Birthday 2014

Last but not least was birthday dinner out with The Mister at Simon Pearce. I stuffed myself full of Korean pork ribs served with crunchy savoy slaw, crispy duck with Himalayan red rice and haricots verts, and of course dessert...a slice of lemony cheesecake topped with diced pears.

Okay, friends - I hope you are enjoying the changing seasons and have a great week ahead of you!
